Yusuke Urameshi, a 14-year-old delinquent, unexpectedly dies while saving a child from an oncoming car. In the afterlife, he meets Botan, a spirit guide, who informs him that his act of heroism was unforeseen, leaving no place for him in heaven or hell. Moved by the emotional reactions of his loved ones to his death, Yusuke is given an opportunity to return to life by Koenma, the son of the Spirit World’s ruler. Upon revival, Yusuke is appointed as a Spirit Detective, tasked with investigating supernatural activities in the Human World.

Throughout his missions, Yusuke confronts and allies with various demons, including Kurama and Hiei. He participates in the Dark Tournament, a deadly competition where teams of demons and humans fight for any wish they desire. Facing formidable opponents like Team Toguro, Yusuke and his friends battle to prevent threats to the Human World. As dark forces emerge, Yusuke and his companions strive to protect everything they hold dear, navigating the complex interplay between the Human, Spirit, and Demon Worlds.
